Vietnam Takes Two Steps Forward in Safety Glass World
Until today, the world's safety glass market has developed according to a single traditionai model. Vietnam makes an exception and, we believe, a positive one.

In 200l, Vietnam's first horizontal Flat tempering machine was installed for the manufacturing of safety glass. The same year Vinaconex, one of the biggest construction companies in the country, became aware of the future prospects of safety glass and started looking for a reliable partner to deliver technology for the manufacturing of laminated safety glass.Vinaconex moved directly to the second stage of safety glass production, skipping traditional flat tempered glass production. This is representative of Vietnamese companies' far-sightedness and courage to invest in the latest technology. "For choosing supplier to the first laminated safety glass plant in Vietnam, we studied several suppliers. Glassrobots has a clear advantage as part of the Tambest Group, which had already produced flat laminated glass for 15 years, said Mr. Tam Cong Nguyen, Director of Safety Glass Plant".

A Vinaconex delegation visited Glassrobots in Finland in the summer of 2001 and observed the process and technology of laminated safety glass. As early as in the autumn of the same year, Vinaconex started an international competitive tendering for the project. Glassrobots won the bidding and signed a delivery contract in November 2001.

The equipment was delivered from Finland in June 2002 and its installation began in September 2002 in Hanoi, at the Vinaconex subsidiary Vinaconex 7's new safety glass factory.

Actual manufacturing of safety glass will commence in November 2002, and then the new factory will produce 1000 m2 of Flat laminated safety glass per day. The factory's, production capacity has been reserved in 2003 for months to come and Vinaconex is already preparing a new factory to be built in Saigon, Southern Vietnam.

Vinaconex adapted a thoroughly modern high technology option quickly in a completely new market situation. A deciding factor was that Vinaconex felt that they were getting the best service available from Glassrobots.

Glassrobots' success within Vietnamese safety glass market continued straightaway
Glassrobots signed a new contract for another flat laminating plant delivery to Vietnam in 2002.

The customer is Dap Cau Sheet Glass, a subsidiary of Viglacera (the Vietnamese Department of Trade and Industry). Viglacera and the Japanese Nippon Sheet Glass jointly own the only Vietnamese float glass factory, Vietnam Float Glass.

The new Dap Cau Sheet Glass is a processor of float glass into safety glass for an increasingly growing market. Viglacera has plans for building three new factories in Vietnam. The Dap Cau Sheet Glass factory starts operating in early 2003.
